Scotland - Dunkeld to St Andrews

There is a lot of history in Dunkeld. In the 9th century, the Celtic Church made Dunkeld the capital of the newly formed nation created by the union of Scots and the Picts. The church grew in power and wealth and the cathedral was started in 1318. The Rectory House seen here, is currently the oldest house in Dunkeld. Amazingly, it was one of only 3 houses that survived the Battle of Dunkeld in 1689. This battle was fought between Jacobite clans supporting the deposed King James and a government regiment supporting the newly crowned William of Orange and his wife Queen Mary.
